I live near Toowoomba, in Queensland, Australia. A home-schooling mother of three wonderful children, my artistic journey started in 2010 when I was looking for art resources for them and found a fantastic online drawing community called ‘Thinkdraw’, which changed my life. There, I discovered the joy of drawing. Suddenly, I was seeing everything with new eyes… it was incredibly exciting.
In September 2010, I purchased a student-grade set of soft pastels. I remember how tentatively I made my first mark on the paper, but by the time I’d finished that first painting, I was hooked! After two more paintings with these pastels, I invested in artist quality materials, which I now use exclusively. My fourth painting was a portrait of a friend's daughter. We both became very emotional when I gave it to her... at that moment I knew that this is what I was meant to do.
Since then, I have painted portraits of children, adults, pets and wildlife. I continue to be deeply moved by the emotional responses with which my portraits are received. It is a joy to capture the essence of my subjects’ personalities, and to know that the resulting paintings will be treasured.
Pastels produce beautiful results and will last for generations. Though I mostly work with soft pastels and PanPastels, I have worked a little with other media and am keen to explore them further.
Painting and drawing have become a passion. I am inspired by the beauty that is all around; the subtle changes in light on people’s faces and across landscapes, the unexpected glimpse of something worth painting in the most ordinary of moments.
